UNESCO has initiated a project titled “Action plan for the Safeguarding of Baul song” to achieve the following objectives:
• To ensure that new generation of Bauls are properly trained in accurate  performance and transmission of Baul Songs
• To identify the Baul Communities of Bangladesh.
• To raise the awareness among the population of Bangladesh about the Baul Songs.

The Shilpakala Academy is the implementing partner and is funded by Japan Fund in Trust. The academy organizes series of workshop with different experts for Baul society which include group of young Baul musician. The Baul Gurus are working with the young musician to perform traditional Baul Music which will be recorded for preservation and for dissemination. A Baul Fair was held in Kushtia on 8 & 9 August, 2009 following the workshop. The project will be completed in March 2010.
