With a broad objective for skill development and motivation for the local journalist on the issues of rights of heritage and restoration of archaeological sites UNESCO Dhaka in collaboration with the Mass-line Media Centre and Dhaka Reporters Unity has organized a two day long training workshop from 15-16 June 2004. The objective was to building capacity of the media journalist on “public awareness through media to preserve heritage”.

Main Issues discussed were -

  • Concept and technique of issue selection for heritage reporting;
  • Preparing reports/features by considering the sensitivity of the issues;
  • In-depth reporting on heritage – identifying issues and focusing on structure, environment and community;
  • Identifying the role of community people in preserving and promoting heritage and reporting on media;
  • Identifying the role of media in preserving and promoting heritage and reporting in the media;
  • Laws related to heritage site preserving and protection of the sites;
  • Techniques of follow-up reporting to promote and preserve the heritage;
  • Fact-findings and monitoring the case of destruction of archaeological sites;
  • Recommendation for future actions.
