Training on Protection of Archaeological Sites and Role of Media |

With a broad objective for skill development and motivation for the local journalist on the issues of rights of heritage and restoration of archaeological sites UNESCO Dhaka in collaboration with the Mass-line Media Centre and Dhaka Reporters Unity has organized a two day long training workshop from 15-16 June 2004. The objective was to building capacity of the media journalist on “public awareness through media to preserve heritage”. Main Issues discussed were - - Concept and technique of issue selection for heritage reporting;
- Preparing reports/features by considering the sensitivity of the issues;
- In-depth reporting on heritage – identifying issues and focusing on structure, environment and community;
- Identifying the role of community people in preserving and promoting heritage and reporting on media;
- Identifying the role of media in preserving and promoting heritage and reporting in the media;
- Laws related to heritage site preserving and protection of the sites;
- Techniques of follow-up reporting to promote and preserve the heritage;
- Fact-findings and monitoring the case of destruction of archaeological sites;
- Recommendation for future actions.
Participants visited Sonargaon National Heritage site as part of their training on the field. Expected result was to increase awareness of the journalist on promotion and preservation on archaeological heritage and relevant Act & Laws; Capacity building of Journalist; Ensure the quality and social role of the journalist. UNESCO Dhaka is planning to organize several training workshop for Journalist in future for journalist from media (print & electronic) especially in divisional level for local journalist as part of its safeguarding campaign for heritage of Bangladesh . |
