UNESCO Regional Bureau in Bangkok and Dhaka office, jointly with UNICEF and ILO, organized the workshop in cooperation with Dhaka Ahsania Mission. The Regional Workshop for Capacity Building of NFE Personnel on Life Skills Curriculum, Teaching Learning Material and Monitoring and Evaluation was held from 30 March to 3 April 2009 in Dhaka, Bangladesh, under the support of UNESCO and Japanese Funds in Trust for EFA.
The overall objective of the workshop is to develop capacity of non-formal education personnel of government and NGOs to improve the quality of programmes for applying various skills in daily life. The areas of life skills can cover protection from risks such as HIV/AIDS prevention and also development e.g. income generation activities.
There were 18 international participants from China, Indonesia, Pakistan, Philippines, Kazakhstan, Thailand, Viet Nam and Lao PDR. Also, 15 NFE personnel of government and NGOs from Bangladesh participated in the workshop.
Main activities of the workshop include: presentations of UNESCO, UNICEF and ILO, country experience sharing, field visits, curriculum development and lesson plan preparation. To share the outputs, participants demonstrated the lesson plans in a classroom setting. Each country team developed follow up action plans to use the workshop experience for future activities of promoting EFA.
