The national technical committee (NTC) of education statistics was formed in 2004 under the project “ Statistical Capacity Building “funded by EC. The research team consisted of 4 members from UNESCO Institute of Statistics, BANBEIS, Directorate of Primary Education, and UNESCO Dhaka. The team visited various education institutions at national, divisional, district, sub-district and village levels and looked into data collection, management and dissemination. The report was finalized in April in 2005. The report describes current routine data collection systems with its strengths and challenges and makes recommendations for further improvement. Based on the findings of the report, a national workshop was held in Dhaka , with government officials at the national level. UNESCO EMIS software, which facilitate data process and dissemination, was introduced.
